Crystal Johnson

Crystal Johnson founded ISES in 2009 and serves as the Managing Director. Crystal is an astute and passionate Senior Energy Strategist and Senior Environmental Planner with more than twenty years of accomplishments in strategic planning, management, policy, research, and assessment of sustainability, energy, and environmental resources. She focuses on energy equity, clean energy workforce development, stakeholder engagement and collaboration, and climate action planning.

Crystal's creative and critical thinking skills, coupled with her excellent communication skills, assist her in cultivating impactful strategies. She has earned a solid record of engagement, innovative thinking, and achievements. Highlights of her awards and recognitions include the following:

Crystal was appointed by (former) MA Governor Baker to the Energy Facilities Siting Board. She also serves on the Green Energy Consumers Alliance and All In Energy Board of Directors.

She graduated from the University of California Berkeley in Conservation Resources Studies. She enjoys studying French, traveling, empowering youth to be climate adaptation thought leaders, and volunteering at at the Unity Farm Animal Sanctuary.

Crystal has worked with a wide range of incredible clients who value the measurable impact of her developed programs, plans, strategies, and/or engagement models designed to address the projects’ challenges. As a people person, Crystal enjoys getting to know the people she works with.

A couple highlights of her innovative work include the following:

  • Crystal developed the Ocean 2030 Climate Restoration Strategic Action Plan included in the United Nations 2019 Climate Action Summit Natured-Based Solutions Meetings.

  • Crystal developed the Legacy and Sustainable Economy Strategic Plan for the U.S. EPA Office of the Administrator for the Former U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.

  • Crystal developed the well-received annual MA Sustainable Economy Conference (SEC) to build bridges within and across MA’s multi-sectors to cultivate a sustainable economy based on advancing sustainability and diversity/equity. SECs were held at the Federal Reserve Bank and MA State House. She also developed the MA Annual Urban Farming Conferences now managed by Northeastern University and the MA Annual Youth Environmental Forums previously managed by Boston Green Academy in partnership with U.S. EPA Region 1.
